Friendly Visitors
Friendly Visitor Program
Even with people all around you in a residential care facility, it is possible to feel lonely. Some residents have no family close by, or may have out-lived their friends and relatives. A Friendly Visitor volunteer can fill the gap by maintaining regular and meaningful contact with a person. Together they can share life stories, games or books, music, or other activities.
All of our Volunteers, no matter the role they are in, are able to...
Listen without judgment, providing an opportunity to talk about life’s journey, or to reminisce.
Offer practical assistance. e.g. reading, writing letters, etc.
Offer companionship and provide helpful information related to end-of-life care, dying, and bereavement.
Act as an advocate to ensure client’s needs are met.
Sit vigil at the bedside of a loved one at the end of life.
Offer respite for family caregivers.
The Volunteers who are a part of this program have completed the same requirements as those who are part of our Palliative Volunteer Program.
