About Us

Mission Statement

Through our presence, advocacy, education, and leadership we offer compassionate, inclusive, and practical support during life-limiting illness, end of life care, and grieving.

The Greater Trail Hospice Society provides support and compassion to all people irrespective of their cultural identity, gender identity, religious beliefs, or health status.

We acknowledge that we are collectively gathered on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Sinixt, Ktunaxa, and Syilx Nations, where we live, learn, collaborate and work together. This region is also home to Chartered Métis Communities.

Our Values

Compassion

Caring for each person and their loved ones during their unique journey with a life-limiting illness or grief.

We offer kindness, warmth and caring for everyone we serve, and strive to promote comfort and reduce suffering. We believe the transition to end of life and through grief is a normal human experience. We foster hope.

Collaboration

Supporting team-based care focused around individual, family, and community needs.

We achieve care through a team-based approach seeking to connect appropriate people, resources and agencies to meet identified and changing needs during a life-limiting illness, palliation and after death.

Our community includes clients, families, volunteers, medical professionals, sponsors, and donors. We support each other with compassion to improve and strengthen communication and collaboration.

We are leaders in advocating for hospice and the benefits of a co-ordinated approach to end of life care.

Respect

Valuing each person and their family’s approach to living, dying, and grieving.

We are mindful of the value and meaning of each life. We promote dignity by supporting each person’s values, choices and traditions. We actively listen to honor each one’s feelings, beliefs and wishes.  We respect each person’s privacy and encourage autonomy and personal decision-making.

We seek to understand each person’s unique emotional, physical and spiritual needs.  We believe in working together with clients and their families. We are accessible and available to help make choices about care over time.

Competence

Striving for excellence in application of knowledge about end of life care, grief support and community education.

We aim for excellence in everything we do, guided by best-practice recommendations. We follow current research and innovation in hospice, palliative, and end of life care.

We are active members of the BC Hospice Palliative Care Association, Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association.

Living our values with honesty, openness, and accountability.

We strive to be worthy of your confidence. Safety and the ethical principle of ‘do no harm’ are fundamental to who we are.
